Everything Points Here
Situated on the Patapsco River, an arm of Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay, downtown Baltimore enjoys a picturesque waterfront setting along the Inner Harbor. At the gateway to the Inner Harbor sits Harbor Point, Baltimore’s newest up-and-coming neighborhood.
As the city’s largest downtown waterfront site currently under development, the 27-acre Harbor Point seamlessly blends more than four million square feet of retail, residential, office, and hotel uses into a dynamic new extension of the city. The neighborhood features thoughtfully designed public space, including 9.5 acres of waterfront parks and a continuation of the Inner Harbor promenade along the water’s edge.
For 140 years, the peninsula now known as Harbor Point was the site of Allied Signal’s Baltimore Works facility. At one time, the plant was the largest processor of chrome ore in the world. When operations ceased in 1985, the community was left with a vacant site that was leaching chromium-contaminated soil and groundwater into the Baltimore harbor. Following a comprehensive 10-year remediation, Harbor Point is now transforming into a vibrant, highly integrated neighborhood with a focus on sustainability and innovation.
